A Thanksgiving Message from the PTA President

Dear Little River Elementary Community,

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on the many things we have to be grateful for here at Little River. This season gives us a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work, dedication, and kindness of everyone in our school community.

First and foremost, thank you to our teachers and staff, who give their all every day to create a supportive, nurturing environment for our children to learn and grow. Their commitment is the foundation of everything we do, and we are deeply thankful for their passion and care.

To our parents and families, we appreciate your continued support and involvement. Whether it’s volunteering for events, participating in fundraisers, or simply showing up to cheer on our kids, your engagement enriches our community and helps create memorable experiences for everyone.

I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated PTA members and volunteers. This year has been filled with events, projects, and fundraisers that wouldn’t have been possible without your time, energy, and ideas. You are the driving force behind so many wonderful initiatives that bring our school family together and support our students' learning and well-being.

Finally, a special thank you to our students. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and resilience inspire us every day. They remind us of the importance of community, kindness, and giving, which are truly at the heart of Thanksgiving.

As we gather with friends and family to celebrate this holiday, let’s carry that spirit of gratitude with us. Together, we’re building a vibrant, caring community here at Little River Elementary, and for that, I am incredibly grateful.

Wishing you all a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and joy.

Warmly,
Sara Wadlow
President, Little River Elementary PTA

LOUDOUN EDUCATION ALLIANCE FOR FAMILIES COMMITTEE

The Loudoun Education Alliance for Families (LEAF) Committee, the family engagement advisory committee to the School Board, held its latest meeting on October 21.  It received an update from Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence, who emphasized his dedication to family engagement as a critical element of student success.  Below are some key takeaways from the meeting:

  • Key Community Themes Addressed: Leadership reviewed September’s activity, focusing on its core priorities of 1) student safety, 2) academic flexibility, 3) school nutrition, 4) parent engagement, 5) communication, and 6) teacher retention. These themes emphasize transparency, collaboration, and equity within the school division.

  • Policy 5030 Review Underway: Dr. Ashley Ellis, Chief Academic Officer, and Ms. Lauren Shernoff, School Board Member, provided an overview of Policy 5030 concerning grading and assessment, and the LEAF Committee members provided feedback.  Additional focus groups set for October-November.  Final recommendations are due to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee in December 2024.

  • Stay Engaged & Provide Feedback: Community members are encouraged to share any additional topics or feedback with the Little River LEAF representative, Bradley McKinney.  You can contact him by email, at leaf@littleriverpta.org.  You can also review additional LCPS policies under review at the Policy Review Page.
