PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - FEBRUARY 2025

Dear Little River Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we embrace the second month of the year! February is a time of kindness, connection, and community, and we have many exciting events and initiatives planned to keep our school spirit strong.

First, I’d like to express my gratitude to all the families, staff, and volunteers who continue to support our PTA’s mission. Your involvement—whether through donations, event participation, or simply showing up for our students—makes a meaningful difference.

This month, we celebrate Valentine’s Day with a focus on friendship and kindness. We encourage students to participate in our Kindness Challenge, spreading positivity throughout the school. We also have our Sock Hop Dance and 5th grade fundraisers kicking off, and we’d love your support to ensure we can continue funding important programs and activities for our students. Details below!

As always, we welcome your ideas and participation. If you haven’t already, consider joining our PTA meetings, where your voice helps shape the experiences we create for our children.

Thank you for being a part of the Little River Elementary community. Let’s make February a month filled with kindness, learning, and fun!

Warmly,
Sara Wadlow
President, Little River Elementary PTA

PTA Advocacy: Your Voice Matters!

Advocacy is about turning personal experiences into action—whether it’s requesting a new policy, improved training, or changes in school funding. By working together, PTA members have been driving meaningful change for over 120 years.

PTA is a non-profit, non-commercial, and non-partisan organization dedicated to speaking up for children and ensuring policies that support their well-being. The moment you speak with a teacher or administrator about a concern, you become an advocate for your child!

With over 4 million PTA members nationwide, we create impact by educating families, raising awareness, and working with school leaders and elected officials to support student success. Join us in making a difference!

Please read the following Education Funding and Standards of Quality link from Virginia PTA Funding and Standards of Quality.

THE PTA IS STILL SELLING SPIRIT WEAR!

EVENTS

In February, the PTA will be hosting a Sockhop for the students. If your child wants to dress up in a poodle skirt or blazer, we encourage them to do so and get ready to show off their best moves!

Save the Date - 3rd Annual STAFF MATBALL GAME!!

We are VERY excited to bring this back for its third year.....it is now a tradition and one we love each year! The Little River staff, almost every year (except for Covid), "performs" an athletic game for the community. We love showing you why we were all hired to be teachers...maybe not athletes, but hey - we are going to be out there, showing our school spirit and having fun! Why? Why not - it is a great community event! Students will be able to see many teachers and staff playing or visiting at the game.

Friday, March 14th at 6pm
